As A Caregiver to my Mom, this list is some of the things I have learned that help me get through everyday. She has dementia and has live with with for over 2 years. Elder safety is something I learned as time went by. The Security Cameras not only give me the ability to keep an eye on her while doing chores around the house but also give me the ability to escape to a private space and take a breath without having to worry as much about her. The door alarms would be my second favorite item I use. Most of the time she is just going out to sit on the porch but once in awhile she tries to wander farther away. when I hear the door alarm if I can't ran right to the door I can quickly check the cameras and see that she's Ok. I first noticed Wellys in the first aid aisle at Target and was immediately attracted to their brightly colored and sometimes artful tin case designs. I never though much of them until I decided to grab a pack. It was a variety pack with bandages ready to cover small, medium and large wounds. What the hell, I thought. I didn't open the package right away, in fact I didn't open them till the first time I needed one. I was surprised to see a tough, sturdy fabric bandage. It felt as tough as some garments even! The adhesive was extremely strong, yet didn't have harsh chemicals and industrial glues, which are a no-no if you have sensitive skin. Despite what other brands offered, you know, first bit of moisture or tug in the wrong direction and it's off, these were almost a struggle to get off. But in a good way. The tough little bandages had it all. I was sold and I'm now a customer for life and I just wanted to share these with you. Maybe you haven't had the chance to give them a try, I promise you won't look back.

If you have chronic illness you know exactly what a “spoonie” is. If you are reading this & wondering what the heck is a “spoonie”? I don't blame you, I didn't either… until I became one. (But don't go anywhere this list is for you too because it's a Self Care list for anyone.) “Spoons” are how people with chronic illness rate their energy levels from day to day. Everyone- chronically ill, or not- has a set number of spoons to get through the day. Let's say 20. Every task you do uses energy, aka spoons. Sometimes getting out of bed, changing your clothes, & brushing your teeth may take 5 spoons, other days might be 2, we never know from day to day how much simple tasks will take from us. When we run out of spoons we quite literally crash. This is where & when learning & knowing about Self Care is important. Self Care, also allows you to take care of those around you. You are not lazy or selfish. You are surviving.
