We spend a lot of time in the Baraboo area. It is truly a gem. After 15 years, these are our favorite spots.
Map
Former winter home of the Ringling Brothers circus. Vintage circus wagons painstakingly restored in the museum, fun and interesting artifacts, a play ground and shows to watch. Great summer activity.
Circus World
Beautiful lake great for hiking, swimming, fishing, beach activities. Friday afternoon fish fry during the summer. Get there early to beat the crowds.
Devils Lake
No frills ski slopes. Well maintained runs. Great on “fresh pow” days.
Devil's Head Ski Resort
Classic bowling alley. Great for all levels. Consistent experience every time. Staff is super nice.
Thunderbird Lanes
Beautiful grounds, good wines. A great way to spend a lazy afternoon enjoying life.
Wollersheim Winery & Distillery
Super popular supper club / German restaurant. Go early to avoid waiting, or bake in extra time to enjoy a drink or two in the bar area while waiting for your table. Fried chicken is beyond excellent.
Dorf Haus Supper Club
Iconic supper club overlooking Mirror Lake. Lots of vintage details (and lots of taxidermy). Old Fashioned(s)are on point. Closed during winter. Expect a 2-3 hour wait on Saturdays, but make a day of it. You can order drinks at various bars and appet...
Ishnala Supper Club
Another fan favorite supper club. Has a mid-century vibe. We are a big fan of the happy hour (first come first serve) in the bar area.
The Del-Bar
If we have been away from Baraboo for a while, the first place we need to visit when we get back is the Log Cabin. Rustic (knotted pine, carved animals) decor. Breakfast is awesome. For kids, the Bear Cake and Volcano French Toast are always winners....
Log Cabin Family Restaurant
Near the entrance to Devil's Lake, Tumbled Rock is a relatively new restaurant and brewery. Fantastic outdoor space with live music. Food and drinks are inventive and more modern.
Tumbled Rock Brewery & Kitchen
Our go-to burger joint in town. Consistent food and service. Does get a little crowded on the weekends. Full on Wisconsin Badgers decor (was once a Monk's Bar).
Baraboo Burger Company
The absolute best place to buy meat. Every flavor of brat that you can imagine. Farm fresh eggs. Fresh sliced bacon. Rib eye steak is incredible.
The Meat Market
Who knew there was a zoo in Baraboo? It is small and free. Good to take smaller kids.
Ochsner Park Zoo
Incredible that such a beautiful theater is in Baraboo. It is like walking into another time. Great for live shows and movies. They also do tours.
Al. Ringling Theatre
Great community spot - of course circus themed. Located in the old ballroom of the Al Ringling House. Beers are solid, sells empanadas and some other standard bar fare. Every now and then the vintage circus organ kicks on and provides a great show (t...
AL. Ringling Brewing Co.
They have multiple locations in Madison, but we always stop at the one in Sauk City. Food is consistently good. Sunday buffet is an impressive spread. Patio overlooking the river is super nice in the summer.
