I lived in Mumbai for a year. It's a tough place to live, but also full of amazing experiences. Restaurants, shopping, and site seeing are unequaled! These are the places I loved and some of the things that made my year easier.

My favorite place in the city! Great Asian fusion food (especially bao!) and equally good cocktails!
The Fatty Bao, Linking Road, Bandra West, Mumbai
This Parsi restaurant is an icon in Mumbai becaue it's really good. Pictures of the British Royal Family hang on the wall and if you're lucky, you'll get to take a picture with the restaurants partriarch!
BRITANNIA & COMPANY RESTAURANT, Mumbai
I hung out here with friends a lot, including to watch the cricket world cup (which we didn't understand!) It has all the charm of a local pub, with a thoroughly Indian twist. Don't expect Irish food, though, or Guinness!

Breakfast was my favorite here! There are other locations in Mumbai, but this one was near my apartment.

Stunningly beautiful architecture - plus trains! If you're taking a train from Mumbai be sure to leave plenty of time to navigate the crowds - and to appreciate the architecture
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus)
It's worth a night or two, even if it stretches your budget a bit. The scent of flowers in the air is intoxicating. The restaurant is fabulous. The rooms and luxuriously comfortable.

Mumbai is magical at night, when the lights come on and people are outside having fun. The Necklace waterfront is the epitome of of this!

GREAT place to shop in Mumbai. Lots of expats buy rugs and furniture here. Beautiful jewelry, too. Wonderful staff, delivery, international shipping, etc.

Shop at the markets! Whether Linking Road or Dadar or somewhere in between, stroll up and down checking our stalls and finding souvenirs and snacks. It's truly Indian
