This was a great vacation. We stayed at an Airbnb ~3 miles west of Hanalei, which is the last main town in Kauai as you head west towards the Nā pali coast. Unfortunately, the Airbnb is no longer listed, and next time we will look for a place even cl...

Eats
The place to stop if you go to Kilauea town. We went there a bunch on our last trip. The ahi burritos and wraps are the best I’ve ever had.
Kilauea Fish Market
We had a lot of shave ice because of Leo, but this is the hippy shave ice that is organic (the syrup, not the ice) to make Sarah happy. We went 3-4 times. Combo of ginger and passion fruit was the best we had on the island.
Wishing Well Shave Ice
Behind the Dolphin, the fancy restaurant in Hanalei that is right on the river. We would have gone there if we didn’t have the kids. The market had really good sushi rolls and beautiful fish. Heidi also got shrimp and chowder there which was good. Pr...
FISH MARKET – The Dolphin Restaurant
Recommended by our hosts. Pretty good food, and easy enough for kids. Monday is fish taco night and it was delicious. We also got fish and chips + burgers and we're happy. We had local Hanalei Beer -- one passion fruit IPA that was pretttttty good.
The Hanalei Gourmet
Very fresh, yummy sushi rolls and wrap. Nothing amazing, but real solid if you are headed that way.
Sushigirl Kauai
Pretty solid pizza. Expensive for a large pizza (like $28) but good if you are getting sick of ahi.
Hanalei Bay Pizzeria
An upscale place for coffee and breakfast. Had a really good cold brew blended coffee thing. Opens at 7 am, so we were early customers.
Hanalei Bread Company
Activities
The clear highlight of our trip. We went here 5x in 6 days. It is amazing snorkeling right off the beach. Just swim out to where the people are at the drop-off and you see a ton of fish. It’s also great for kids because there is shade. The swimming i...
Tunnels Beach
This is the hike along the Nā Pali cost. We went when the kids were napping so just did 2 miles into the first main beach and then back out 2 miles. Pretty spectacular (see pic below). Most people do a hike that is 4 miles in (8 round trip) to Hanaka...
Kalalau Trail
Peaceful beach. We think far inferior to Tunnels but far superior for sunset. See sunset pictures.
Ke’e beach
This is the fanciest hotel on the island. We went there because we were staying one night at the Westin (sister hotels) but I think you can just valet park there and go in. Sunset on the beach was one of the best I’ve ever seen. You can get a drink a...
Sunset at Princeville Resort Kauai
Sarah and Heidi went and thought it was pretty cool. More like a hike than a granny garden. Lots of history, views, flowers, etc.
Limahuli Garden and Preserve
Saturday morning at the community center in Hanalei. There was a line at 930am! The setting was amazing. We had the best Papaya we’ve ever had (technically strawberry papaya), pretty yummy Acai bowl, breakfast burrito, mangos, cold coconut, and more....
Hanalei Farmer’s Market
We borrowed some basic foam tops from boards from our Airbnb. It is a very easy beginner break right by the pier. Park at the pier on Weke Rd. and see where people are surfing. A lot of people go to this beach since it’s pretty long and nice to walk....
Hanalei Bay
Tidepool on elevated rocks that is 5-10 minute hike down with some scrambling. When I went you couldn’t swim, because it looked more like a whirlpool than a peaceful place to chill. Apparently sometimes it looks calm, but I took the pic when it looks...
